Each year the Rio Grande Valley Sugar Growers, Inc., processes more than 1,000,000 tons of sugarcane to produce about 100,000 tons of raw sugar and 45,000 tons of blackstrap molasses. There are more than 35,000 acres of sugarcane planted in a three-county area.

The co-op employs three hundred permanent employees an additional five hundred seasonal employees during the harvesting period, which is from October to April. The annual payroll exceeds $8,000,000 and the total operating budget is more than $24,000,000.

The Rio Grande Valley Sugar Growers, Inc., produces this important food commodity through a sophisticated and highly coordinated process which requires the cooperation of growers, employees, suppliers, and the general public.
