Sugar Cane Field

Planting and caring of the sugarcane is the responsibility of each grower/member. The planting season extends from August to December, and growing to maturity requires at least 12 months. Pieces of sugarcane stalk (of varying lengths) are planted 3 to 6 inches deep in an overlapping, straight-line method. Each seed piece has three or four vegetative buds which germinate to grow new plants. sugarcane requires 40 to 50 inch of water annually and had a ratooning characteristic which means that it regrow each year after it is harvested. Stands are normally retained for five year or longer with yields averaging more than 30 tons per acre.
