Caracara

The Caracara is also called the "Mexican Eagle" as it is often depicted in art work standing on a cactus with a writhing rattlesnake in its bill. It is only found in the Western hemisphere and has 10 species grouped in four genera. The only species found in the US today is the crested Caracara and goes by a variety of names: Mexican eagle, Audubon's Caracara, king buzzard and common Caracara.
